The White House Called And We Answered

The White House Conference Call

On January 16, 2014 there was conference call set up by the White House with Georgians to explain why our state ended up with the candidates nominated by the President for the 11th Circuit and Northern District. The White House heard us loud and clear at the news conference at Ebenezer Baptist Church which made national news on December 23, 2013 wherein veteran civil rights leaders, elected officials, attorneys and clergy protested President Obama’s nominees to the federal court in Georgia .  Everyone who had the opportunity to speak on the conference call today expressed outrage about some of the nominees, displeasure with the process used to select the nominees, and disappointment with the President for not fighting more for Georgians who would rather see the seats remain vacant rather than filled with a “compromise” slate of candidates.  If you are concerned with the current slate of judges selected to sit on our federal bench such as Judge Michael P. Boggs and Attorney Mark Cohen, join Advocacy For Action, Representative David Scott and the Georgia Association of Black Women Attorneys (GABWA) in contacting Senator Leahy to let him know about our opposition to the Georgia nominees.  You can read AFA’s letter on the website –

Please send your letter ASAP to:
Senator Patrick Leahy
Committee on the Judiciary
224 Dirksen Senate Office Building
Washington, DC 20510

We need as many voices as possible to tell the Senate Judiciary Committee that we do not support confirming judges for lifetime positions who have demonstrated that they do not support the human and civil rights issues that are so important to our community.
